Off The Streets is a 501(c)(3) organization that provides hope and dignity to those experiencing homelessness by helping them transition to permanent housing. We assist persons referred by local social service providers with a security deposit and basic furnishings. We perform these tasks using only volunteers and donations, and accept no government funding. Donated dollars do not fund an office or any staff; at least 97% directly assists the neighbors in need who we serve.  

The persons we assist are referred by local social services, are able to pay rent going forward, and composed chiefly (at least 80%) by women & children. We assist with a security deposit as needed, but also provide full house furnishings as needed to at least three households every Saturday morning. 

That may mean a bed, bedding - mattress cover, sheet set, blanket & comforter - and all the other basic furniture & household items needed to make that room, that apartment or house a comfortable home. For families, it is everything needed to create a home conducive to children, including books & youth themed bedding. It is often with great emotion that our friends react to our making their own beds & seeing a towel see of their own. “Is that bed for me alone?” is an often heard comment. We depend only on volunteers, the generosity of our Lancaster community, and accept no government funding. We have assisted 5,600 people since 2013, bringing respect, dignity & hope to the marginalized neighbors referred to us. Thank you for thinking of us!
