GTGH Gift Fair Welcomes New Nonprofit PA VENT CAMP!

We’re so excited to learn more about the myriad of healthcare providers who come together for a week to give vent-dependent children the chance to experience a week of camp!

Isn't it fantastic that Doctors, Nurses, Respiratory Therapists, Sign Language Interpreters, Physical Therapists, and more volunteer their time to make dreams come true? We're so happy to add this non profit organization to our lineup this year for the Gift Fair.

Testimonial from a Longstanding Volunteer:

"I have been attending PA Vent Camp for 25 years now, starting when I was just 10 years old. This camp has been a transformative part of my life, shaping my career path and fostering lifelong friendships.

Initially, I dreamed of becoming a nurse, but PA Vent Camp opened my eyes to the diverse possibilities within the medical field. Today, I proudly serve as a sign language interpreter, facilitating crucial communication in medical settings—an opportunity I discovered and nurtured through the camp's enriching experiences.

Beyond professional growth, PA Vent Camp has taught me invaluable life lessons. The campers themselves have been my teachers, showing me how to cherish every moment and embrace life fully.

My favorite memories at camp are filled with exhilarating activities like zip-lining, creative sessions of arts and crafts, and unforgettable camp dances. These experiences have not only been fun but have also shaped my perspective on life and friendship.

PA Vent Camp is more than just a summer camp for kids; it's a community where passion meets purpose and where friendships flourish. I am immensely grateful for the guidance, support, and memories that PA Vent Camp has provided me over the years."

Vent Camp Participant Testimony:

Hi my name is Will, and I started going to PA Vent Camp in 2001. Over the years I grew up, somehow finally becoming an adult, and in 2014 I started going to Camp Horizons, the adult version of PA Vent Camp.

At PA Vent Camp the campers not only learn what it's like to get away from their parents for a whole week at a summer camp, but they also learn about themselves. They learn about their likes and dislikes, how adventurous they are, and most importantly what type of date they want to bring to the dance.

PA Vent Camp is a place where disabled campers feel safe to take chances and take part in risky behavior. No, not that risky behavior... I'm talking about campers with tracheotomies who rely on ventilators to breathe being able to get into a pool with their friends for the first time. Or even doing things like climbing a rock wall. Even riding a zip line, fishing, playing sports, creating art, performing in a talent show, having a food fight, or hanging out in a treehouse with friends.

I think it is fair to say we judge life-based on experiences and relationships, how much love we give, and how much love we get in return. For people with disabilities, many of what may seem like regular experiences are deemed unsafe or simply too much of a hassle. Many missed relationships follow these missed experiences.

Fortunately, some fight for and work with people with disabilities. Because of the support from the amazing staff, nurses, and friends we have at camp, PA Vent Camp and Camp Horizons are places where everyone is equal, and where campers have the ability to have fulfilling and exciting experiences, as well as make meaningful and long-lasting relationships.

Thanks so much to all of you who continue to support this wonderful and important organization.
