GTGH Partner Focus: Milagro House

Take a minute to imagine. You’re a mom who dreams of becoming a nurse and being able to give your children all the things you never had. You’ve been doing your best to provide for your children and have been taking classes part-time over the last four years to earn your RN degree.

  • You’re so close to finishing the requirements but an abusive partner threatens
your safety and housing for yourself and your children are in jeopardy as a result.
  • You’re not sure where to turn, you fear you will be homeless if you leave, and you know you will again have to put your education and your dreams aside to survive.

In searching for options you are referred to Milagro House – now what felt impossible feels possible. Welcome to Milagro House. We’re so happy you’re here. It is our mission to help women with children who are facing homelessness accomplish their educational goals so they can gain their independence, secure employment that pays a living wage, and take control of their lives.

We offer case management and counseling to provide needed support and services. Our education services provide tutoring and educational support to help you complete your classes.

Our life skills programming offers workshops to help you gain skills that help you succeed outside the classroom such as budgeting, nutrition, meal planning, and parenting skills.

You’ve been working hard and before you finish your clinical requirements for your RN you’ve landed your dream job! You stay at Milagro House until you’ve secured housing and are able to get what you need to settle yourself and your children into your new home.

Moving out of Milagro House brings on excitement and anxiety but you know you are not alone. You will remain at the Beyond Milagro House for one year, you know our staff will be checking in with you monthly to see how you are doing and helping you if you need support.
What once felt impossible is now a reality. Your dreams are coming true!

This is just one story of a Milagro House mom – women come to us from various backgrounds and circumstances – each has its own unique challenges, obstacles, strengths, and dreams. Our vision is to help turn a woman’s goal of getting an education into an achievable reality by removing the barriers to betterment and self-sufficiency often faced by women in poverty. The important work of Milagro House and the miracles we see our women accomplish would not be possible without the support of our donors – together we can do great things!
