Havyn International is a fair trade, social enterprise that exists to promote the work of artisans around the world, with a specific focus in Ethiopia. While we believe that charity serves a purpose to meet acute needs, the heart of Havyn International is to come alongside local community efforts for long standing solutions in decreasing the effects of poverty, promoting family preservation, and providing dignity with stable, safe employment for women who have been marginalized. As we meet with artisans and hear their stories, the desire to work and create and provide for their families is a running theme. As mothers are able to stop begging in the streets, stop searching in trash dumps for food, stop waiting for a handout, and instead are able to create, earn a living, provide food for their children, and send their children to school...long standing change in them and their children evolves. Family cycles of extreme poverty are broken. Children are educated which brings freedom and hope for the future.
Our desire at Havyn International is to bring awareness to a different type of shopping. Our hope is that our friends, family, and those who get to know us will understand the impact of choosing to purchase items that bring hope and change to communities, families, and individuals for good.

As an office we provide Resettlement Services, Intensive Case Management and Navigation Services, Employment Services, Immigration Legal Services and Civic Engagement Efforts.
Resettlement and Intensive Case Management and Navigation Services provide assistance with the purpose of easing clients' adjustment to their new community upon arrival to the U.S. and support their integration process throughout the following five years. Employment Services provide newcomers the assistance to move towards financial self-sufficiency through securing employment. New clients prepare for their first job by completing an Employment Orientation Course and a four-week ESL Work Readiness Class, covering essential topics for the workforce. Immigration Legal Services offer Central Pennsylvania an alternative to the high cost of private immigration lawyers. Staff members are attorneys and/or accredited by the Department of Justice and offer a multitude of services. Civic Engagement Efforts include community organizing, census representation, voter registration and much more engagement within the refugee and immigrant community.

I was born and raised on Long Island, NY and the many hours spent at the beach left an undying love of all things sand and sea. As an adult I was privileged to spend 17 years of my life living with my family in the archipelago of Indonesia. From the moment I set foot on Java, all 5 senses were immediately engaged in new and wonderful sig
I was born and raised on Long Island, NY and the many hours spent at the beach left an undying love of all things sand and sea. As an adult I was privileged to spend 17 years of my life living with my family in the archipelago of Indonesia. From the moment I set foot on Java, all 5 senses were immediately engaged in new and wonderful sights, smells, sounds and tastes. Living on this island only cemented my affinity to island living, and I am forever deeply attached to these 2 island worlds.
I have always been drawn to the luminosity of watercolors and have been painting for many years as a self-taught watercolorist. During my life on Java, it was a delight to be surrounded by a culture with an amazing and rich art history. I especially connected with the art of batik, and the craftsmanship and beauty of this art form. As a result, most of my artwork is inspired by batik.
Indonesian Batik is a process of waxing and dyeing cloth, repeated several times to create colorful and elaborate designs. This form of batik, known as batik tulis, requires the skill of a master craftsman and may take several months to produce.

When my children suggested that I have my paintings printed to sell as notecards, the idea immediately resonated with me in what I believe was a God-inspired moment! Since then, I have loved every minute of this journey and am excited about bringing the beauty of these two art forms to the public in a way that is useful as well as beautiful.
Many of my paintings were, and continue to be, inspired by the batik fabrics I brought back with me from Indonesia, and new ideas and colors and designs continue to spring up, aching to be painted. In addition, I am always thinking of new ways to reproduce my artwork onto practical and useful items, so my website is continually changing with new designs and expanding to include new products!
While I love where I currently live in land-locked Lancaster city, I still love island life and make trips to the beach whenever I can.

Annette grew up with a love for the earth, a curiosity about other cultures, and a passion for justice and equality in our world. These themes infuse her writing and give shape to her being and doing in the world.
Annette divides her time between tutoring multilingual college students, writing poetry and children’s books, spending time with her family and friends, and offering spiritual companionship to individuals and groups looking to deepen their experience of the sacred.
Annette envisions a world where every child is loved and has access to all of life’s essentials, a world where slavery is completed eradicated, a world that values each human life as sacred, regardless of color, creed, or credentials, a world that is sustainable for future generations of people, trees, and butterflies.
Annette loves books, labyrinths, coffee shops, hummingbirds, fair-trade gifts, trees, sunlight, laughing, dancing, yoga, and good food. She’s also a tad bit passionate about taking care of the earth, nutrition, refugee and immigrant rights, peaceful solutions to conflict and making space for quiet (including silencing cell phones).
